If you are selling any platform, you need to read The Power of Why. I absolutely loved this book and it has changed the way I not only view businesses, but judge them as well. The entire premise is discovering your unique value promise and how to become a customer centric business. Many businesses discussed in the book include well known brands that have amazing customer focused environments along with smaller “mom and pop” businesses that have transformed into larger things when they focused on the advantages to the customer instead of spilling off a list of why they are the best.

John C Maxwell Intentional Living book

Intentional Living (Center Street, 2015)

John C. Maxwell has done it again. I am slightly biased as Dr. Maxwell is by far my favorite author, but I am rarely let down.

My only issue with the book Intentional Leadership was his chapter lengths. Each chapter averaged around 25 pages. My ADD would love attention far to easy while reading.
The book was a slow read for me, but great content. I actually finished the book in 11 days, which may be a speed record (I mean it was slow to read in terms of absorbing the content, not the content itself.)
Dr. Maxwell’s candidness to open up and share personal failures is amazing. Thank you Dr. Maxwell for writing this book, it is a must read for anyone struggling with what to do to add significance and value to people.

Strengths Finder 2.0

Strengths Finder 2.0 (New York, NY: Gallup Press, 2007)

I bought Strengths Finder 2.0 after hearing Michael Hyatt recommend it on his podcast This Is Your Life. This really isn’t a book to read as the Part I is a very short synopsis of the history and what the online test will do. After finishing Part 1, you go to www.strengthsfinder.com and enter the one-time access code for the online test. This test is approximately 35 minutes long and asks over 170 questions to determine your strengths (talents) based on 34 themes. I don’t want to spoil to much for you, but after receiving my answers, I just do not know that I could fit into any other themes better than my top 5. Go buy it and take the test. It is well worth it.

This book is an absolute have to read for anyone in management or leadership and everyone who aspires to be. When I first looked at my results, I thought they must be wrong, but after looking internally and reading the results, this exposed my true strengths and what makes me move.

Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art is an amazing compilation of art that talks about resistance. Resistance is the force that keeps us from creating, from conquering our fears. Pressfield talks about how becoming “pro” means confronting resistance and pushing through. I high recommend The War of Art to anyone who is creating content.
